On behalf of the Association of the Finnish Chemical Societies we wish to inform You of the reorganization of our Societies.
The process of reorganizing the responsibilities among chemical societies in Finland has been in progress for some time and the reallocation of responsibilities has been finalized recently. Association of Finnish Chemical Societies has until now acted as the umbrella organization for three different societies: Finnish Chemical Society (Suomalaisten Kemistien Seura), Chemical Society of Finland (Finska Kemistsamfundet), and Finnish Society of Chemical Engineers (Kemiallisteknillinen Yhdistys). On September 4th 2012 the Representative Assembly of the Association of Finnish Chemical Societies decided to discontinue the umbrella organization and transfer its responsibilities to Finnish Chemical Society.
The three member societies of the Association will continue as independent parallel organizations. However, the three societies have agreed that joint responsibilities will be held by Finnish Chemical Society. Finnish Chemical Society will also act in the role of Finnish National Committee for Chemistry. Finnish National Committee for Chemistry coordinates international activities and represents Finland in international organizations in the field of chemistry.
As from now on Finnish Chemical Society substitutes Association of Finnish Chemical Societies as the Finnish representative in international organizations. The Association has been the National Adhering Organization for Finland within IUPAC. We request that the position of the National Adhering Organization for Finland will be transferred to Finnish Chemical Society.
