EFCE Working Party Chemical Reaction Engineering (WP-CRE) had a successful meeting in Quebec at ISCRE27 – Next ISCRE28 will be in Turku/Åbo in June 2024
The EFCE WP-CRE had a meeting in connection of the International Symposium on Chemical Reaction Engineering 27 (ISCRE27) at Restaurant Le Hobbit in the wonderful and picturescue city of Québec (June 13, 2023, at noon). The members who took part in ISCRE27 were present at the meeting: Professors Kai Hinrichsen, Technische Universität München, Kevin van Geem, Rijksuniversiteit Gent, Belgium, Miguel Madeira, Universidade do Porto, Guy Marin, Rijksuniversiteit Gent, Belgium, Tapio Salmi, Åbo Akademi, Finland, Enrico Tronconi, Politecnico di Milano, Italy and Jan Verstraete IFP-EN, France.
The ISCRE27 (https://www.iscre.org/iscre27-2/conference-overview/) in Québec June11-14 2023 was regarded to be a success, since we could return to face-to-face meetings. The leading topic of ISCRE7 was ‘Chemical reaction engineering for sustainable development’. The lectures were on a big scientific level and the poster sessions were very successful. Tapio Salmi gave an invited keynote lecture ‘Reaction engineering aspects in the low-temperature transformation of biomass to valuable molecules’ at ISCRE27. Other lectures given by the Åbo Akademi team concerned ethyl levulinate ketalisation (Tapio Salmi), continuous epoxidation of vegetable oils (Tommaso Cogliano), microreactor technology (Luca Mastroianni) and advanced kinetic models for catalytic processes (Dmitry Murzin). Most of these presentations were the result of a long-term and very fruitful collaboration between Åbo Akademi and Università di Napoli ‘Federico II’. ISCRE28 (2024) was promoted during the conference dinner in Québec. – Besides the conference activities, the WP-CRE will continue with webinars. Members of the WP-CRE have also been active in contributing to the European Congress of Chemical Engineering (ECCE14, Berlin, September 17-221, www.ecce-ecab2023.eu).
The main discussion in the working party meeting concerned the organization of next ISCRE, ISCRE28 in Turku/Åbo, June 16-19.2024. Tapio Salmi reported on the preparation of the meeting. The following actions are taken: The webpage for ISCRE has been created: www.iscre28.org. The abstract submission will be opened in October 2023. The agreement with EFCE has been signed, the ISCRE conference is now on the webpage of EFCE and has n EFCE event number Event 801). The special issue in Chemical Engineering Journal has been discussed with the editor, Professor Angeliki Lemonidou (Thessaloniki). Sponsoring actions have been started with companies and various foundations. Screening of potential plenary and keynote speakers is going on. Agreements on special prices in hotels Turku have been signed. Conference facilities are reserved (Logomo Cultural and Conference Center in Turku). The conference gala dinner will take place in the medieval castle of Turku. – The WP CRE expressed its satisfaction with the actions going on in Finland. The members of WP-CRE (in total about 30 persons) will form the Scientific Committee of ISCRE 28 and contribute with advices and evaluation of the submitted abstracts, to the selection of oral and poster presentations in Turku/Åbo 2024.
